Amy Bourbeau, head coach of the women’s ice hockey team, has resigned, the University announced Thursday.
The third head coach in the program’s history, Bourbeau coached the team for four seasons, with its record declining each year. She has a career record of 23-79-14, equating to a .259 winning percentage.
Bruno finished eighth in the ECAC with a .371 winning percentage during Bourbeau’s first season in 2011-12, marking the highest finish of her career and Brown’s best record since 2006-07. That season, the Bears made their first conference tournament appearance in five years.
The 2014-15 season was a difficult one for Bruno, which posted a meager 5-23-1 overall record, with a 2-19-1 record in conference play. The Bears lost 17 of their final 19 games and ended the season ranked last among Division I teams by the NCAA.
A Rhode Island native, Bourbeau was a three-time ECAC champion as a player on the Providence College women’s hockey team before graduating in 1996, according to the Brown Bears website. She served as an assistant coach at Princeton for 12 years. While working with the Tigers, she received the American Hockey Coaches Association’s inaugural Women’s Ice Hockey Assistant Coach Award.
